| September 5, 2012 6:30 PM

It’s time again to fall for art at Stumptown Art Studio.

Three sessions of fall art offerings begin the week of Sept. 10, with programs for every age group. In addition to the popular youth classes, a variety of adult workshops are also on the schedule.

New on the schedule for ages 3 to 9 is the Stumptown Art Academy on Mondays and Wednesdays. This fully academic educational program with fine arts as its focus serves preschool students from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and elementary ages from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

After School Arts and Crafts Club for kindergarten through fourth-grade students is at Muldown School from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays. It is part of the Whitefish Parks and Recreation after-school care, with the art provided by Stumptown Art Studio teachers. Then on Wednesdays, children ages 9 to 13 come to Stumptown Art Studio from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. for their own Art Club.

Art Exploration for 3- to 5-year-olds meets every Tuesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Each four-week session will emphasize a variety of art materials and fun projects.

For the littlest artists, there is Parent-Toddler Art Time on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The popular Art with the Masters series focuses on artists from Japan on Thursdays for ages 6 to 9 after school. Students will learn about the world of art through discovery of the works of Hokusai, Noguchi and Hiroshige, and then create woodblock prints, sculptures and paintings in their styles.

Each month through December, a variety of adult workshops will be offered. The Cultural and Art History Club meets every second Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. until noon. The focus of the Sept. 11 discussion will be Montana potter David Shaner.

Guest artisan Kris Kramer is offering monthly workshops using Precious Metal Clay. This month’s class is from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and will feature making earrings or pendants with stacked layers of Precious Metal Clay, a soft material that is 99.9 percent silver, then fired and polished.

The first adult workshop in glass fusing is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Colored glass pieces, copper foil and real leaves will be used to create fall leaf platters.

A workshop in encaustic and pigment stick is being offered by artist Shawna Moore at her own studio, where she will simplify the encaustic process of painting with wax. Students need to bring their own panels with all other materials supplied. Stumptown Art Studio is currently taking sign-ups for the class, which will take place Sept. 29 and 30.

Adults will have the opportunity to join a monthly evening of Canvas and Cocktails the final Friday of every month. Souheir Rawlings and Susan Guthrie will lead the Sept. 28 painting session that will focus on Pablo Picasso.

Coming up Oct. 18-20 is a special oil painting workshop with Whitefish artist Rob Akey. The workshop will be held at a Whitefish Lake residence with instruction on composition, color and brushwork in landscape and still life subjects.
