Polson, Libby, Bigfork ranked in first prep football poll

Undefeated starts for Polson, Libby and Bigfork has each team ranked in the top five of the first prep football poll of the season.

Polson (2-0) was ranked fourth and Libby (3-0) fifth in the Class A poll, each a ways behind the top three. Defending state champion Dillon (1-0) and runner-up Billings Central (3-0) split first-place votes in taking the top two spots. Laurel, which got one first-place vote after an impressive 3-0 start, finished in a close third.

Bigfork came in fifth in the Class B poll, after a 2-0 start, coming in just ahead of Western foe Missoula Loyola Sacred Heart. Manhattan (2-0) leads the poll, coming off a thrashing of defending state champ Fairfield, and perennial contender Malta (2-0) is in second. Red Lodge (2-0) and Glasgow (2-0) round out the top five.

The Class AA poll is headlined by Bozeman (3-0), which got a unanimous first place vote as the only undefeated team in the state. Helena Capital (2-1) came in second with Great Falls C.M. Russell (2-1), Helena High (2-1) and Billings West (2-1) rounding out the top five. Glacier was listed as receiving votes, the only 1-2 team on the list.

Fairview leads the Class C 8-man poll and Hysham leads a close race with Hot Springs and Big Sandy in the 6-man poll.
