Edna G. Skramstad, 85

Edna G. Skramstad, 85, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Brendan House in Kalispell, in the presence of her daughter Sheryl. 

She was born in Finley, N.D., on Dec. 16, 1926, to Gustav and Agnes (Anderson) Olson.

Edna attended a small country school and graduated from Cooperstown, N.D., high school. She attended Valley City teachers college in North Dakota. She then taught in a small country school.

Edna married Gene Skramstad on Dec. 8, 1945, and she raised her family in Grand Forks, Fargo and Minot, N.D., and moved to Kalispell in 1971. While in Minot, Edna worked in several retail positions and was a volunteer for the Civil Defense, watching for unidentified aircraft.

After moving to Kalispell, Edna worked with her husband in starting and operating the El Rancho Cafe. While operating the cafe, they also operated a wild game meat processing business. 

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Floyd, Maurice and Russell; and a granddaughter, Shannon. 

She is survived by her husband, Gene, of 66 years; a son, Allan and Kay, of West Fargo, N.D.; a son, Dennis, of Kalispell; a daughter, Sheryl and Monte Magruder, of Kalispell; a son, Bradley and Cindy, of Kalispell; a brother, Milton Olson, of Fargo; grandchildren, Tracy and David Drake, Lisa and Eric Cook, Scott Skramstad, Jon and Kris Skramstad, Erik and Heather Skramstad, Cody and Hillary Hatton, and Ashlee Skramstad; great-grandchildren, Samuel Eide, Lucas Eide, Emma Cook, Sofi Cook, Isabella Skramstad and Bryce Skramstad; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services for Edna will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 18, in the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Chapel with Pastor Robert Nilsen officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. today until the time of services. Burial will follow in the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. 

The family suggests that memorial gifts be given to the Alzheimer’s Association of Montana, 3010 11th Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.
