Two charged after Eureka family fight
A woman was wounded by a stray bullet fired during a large family fight that broke out at a Eureka trailer court Saturday night.
Two men have been charged with misdemeanors related to the incident.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies started receiving reports about the fight at the Creek Side Trailer Court at about 9:40 p.m., and there was a report that a gun was fired during the altercation.
When they arrived, the fight was over, and only one person, Timothy Nowakowski, remained at the scene. The rest of the adults had left and were looking for a missing youth who was later found at another residence unharmed.
An investigation determined that the altercation had occurred between Timothy Nowakowski and at least two other family members.
At some point during the fight, Nowakowski’s nephew Eric Nowakowski allegedly fired a 9 millimeter handgun in an effort to break up the fight.
A woman, who had also tried to break up the fight, was struck by the bullet. After initially refusing treatment, she eventually was taken to a hospital.
Eric Nowakowski, 23, has been charged with negligent endangerment, a misdemeanor, and is being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond pending an initial court appearance.
Timothy Nowakowski, 47, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of partner/family member assault and is being held at the detention center on $2,500 bond pending an initial court appearance.
