Flatfish Invitational golf: Keenan, Avery post best scores on opening day
WHITEFISH — A pair of freshmen top the leader board at the Flatfish Invitational golf tournament.
Ryan Keenan of Flathead shot an opening round 1-under-par 71 on the North Course at Whitefish Lake Golf Club on Friday for a one-shot lead on Logan Iverson of Glacier and Art Doorn of Whitefish.
Teigan Avery of Glacier carded an 83 for the top girls score, one shot better than teammate Hannah Davis.
Kailey Prosser of Great Falls is just two shots behind the leader in third place, followed by Shea Stevens of Glacier, in fourth with an 86. and Erin Tabish of Whitefish, fifth with at 87.
Whereas Avery has been a medalist this season, Keenan is going for his first tournament title.
“He went back to his draw (this week),” Flathead coach Jess Roper said of Kennan.
“That’s what he knows. It worked. He was happy. He had a pretty solid round — three birdies and two bogies.”
Flathead’s Max Applegate also had a stellar showing with a 73. That’s good for fourth place.
The Glacier boys and girls are on top of the team standings.
Tournament action concludes today with the final 18 at Buffalo Hill Golf Club. Play starts at 8:30 a.m.
