Gunfire was reported in the Empire Estates subdivision Saturday evening and police say a 40-year-old Kalispell man died from multiple gun shot wounds he received.

A 24-year-old Kalispell man was quickly detained for questioning about the incident, according to Kalispell Police Chief Roger Nasset.

Multiple 911 callers reported hearing several gunshots at about 8:40 p.m.

Officers responded to the subdivision as another 911 call came in advising that a man had been shot.

The victim was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for treatment but succumbed to his wounds shortly after arriving. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

The Kalispell Major Crime Unit and detectives division are conducting interviews and a search of the crime scene to ascertain what transpired in this incident, Nasset said in a press release early Sunday morning.

Details on criminal charges will be discussed once the investigation reveals more details of what transpired and pending consultation with the Flathead County attorney’s office.
