Shooting victim identified
Daniel Fredenberg, 40, of Kalispell has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting Saturday in the Empire Estates subdivision at the west end of Kalispell.
Kalispell Police are being tight-lipped about the shooting that led to a 24-year-old man being detained for questioning at the scene.
“No one is in custody at this time, and no arrests have been made,” Police Chief Roger Nasset said Monday afternoon.
Asked if the incident potentially involved self-defense, Nasset said inquiries are being handled by the Flathead County Attorney’s Office.
“That’s what the county attorney’s office will be reviewing. Just because there hasn’t been a determination made, they want all the answers to come from them,” Nasset said.
County Attorney Ed Corrigan was not in his office and was unavailable for comment Monday.
An investigation with the assistance of the Montana State Crime Lab is continuing and is expected to be reviewed over the next few days, according to a Kalispell Police press release.
At about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, multiple 911 callers reported hearing several gunshots in the subdivision, and one caller reported that a man had been shot.
Fredenberg was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead soon after arriving there.
The Kalispell Major Crime Unit and detectives division interviewed the 24-year-old man and initiated the investigation.
