Final gallery night event in Whitefish

| September 26, 2012 8:00 PM

Whitefish Gallery Nights, the monthly tour of Whitefish’s downtown art venues, wraps up for the season in October.

The final gallery night is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 4. Information about some of the scheduled exhibits follows. For a full list of participating galleries, visit www.whitefishgallerynights.org.

Work by paper artist Angie Zimmerman and students from her Inspired Paper Making workshop in Whitefish will be on display at the Walking Man Frame Shop and Gallery.

The workshop, which took place in a yurt at the Haymoon Resort, gave students a chance to play and experiment with paper pulp and plant fibers.

“When participants found their avenue in paper making, the play transformed into serious, motivated art making,” Wisconsin-based Zimmerman says in a news release. “Each finished piece created was unique to the individual’s inspirations and guided through their experiences with nature, other artists’ work, making art with children, paper arts and design.”

The art in the Inspired Paper Making show features manipulated abaca, cotton and Thai kozo fibers, Zimmerman says.

The Walking Man will offer light refreshments during Whitefish Gallery Nights, and live music by Addison Clark and Kelsey McFeeley.

The gallery is located at 305 Baker Ave. For additional information, call 863-2787.

The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring work by Whitefish artist Erin Hawley during the month of October.

Hawley is a 2012 graduate from the goldsmithing and jewelry arts program at Flathead Valley Community College. She creates one-of-a-kind jewelry that explores the story that stone and silver seem to speak together.

"When building a piece of jewelry, I start with the stone, and then I build a visual story around it. Some stories are short and sweet, some are universal, and some are very personal,” Hawley says.

“Everyday experiences become illustrations in a piece of jewelry that can be worn and remembered. Silver and stone can easily turn an ordinary story into an extraordinary one."

The Purple Pomegranate is located at 222 Central Ave. For additional information, call 862-7227 or visit www.purplepomegranate.com.
