Struggling swimmer rescued
Emergency responders saved a struggling swimmer in the water near Riverside Park in Polson Tuesday.
Officers from the Polson Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and personnel with Polson fire and ambulance responded at about 1:40 p.m. to a report of a woman near the mouth of the Lower Flathead River who was yelling for help.
When they arrived, she was about 150 feet from shore, yelling for help, waving her arms and having a hard time keeping her head above water.
Assistant Chief John Stevens and Deputy Clay Shoemaker entered the water and made their way to the woman, while personnel on shore assisted by holding a rope tethered to the swimming officers.
Once they reached the woman, the three were pulled to shore. The woman was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment; the officers were not injured during the rescue.
