Barbershop chorus in concert April 13

| April 3, 2013 5:30 PM

The Flathead Valleyaires Barbershop Chorus’ spring concert takes place April 13.

The show starts precisely at 7:34 p.m. in the Glacier High School auditorium and will last about two hours.

The Valleyaires chorus, a group of 20 men who relish the opportunity to ring the rich a cappella chords that make the distinct barbershop sound, will sing several favorites, both old and new. This group has been rehearsing two hours a week for the past year in anticipation of this concert.

Two smaller vocal groups, quartets Classic Touch and The CutUps, will also perform, and Frank Kuntz, noted performer, producer and pianist, will play his unique style of piano.

Classic Touch combines the talents of Jeff Houston, Duane Herriges, Steve Kauffman and Ken Kauffman to create a smooth vocal blend. A quartet with more than three decades of history and recognized for its ability to demonstrate what barbershop harmony should be, these men have experienced years of success on both show and competitive stages.

The CutUps represent a new group of seasoned singers. Doyle Carr, Charles Peterson, Jon Erler and David Vale have all been singing almost since they could walk. In this performance, prepare to hear old favorites delivered with a fresh display of mischief.

Kuntz is a classically trained pianist, speaker, entertainer and composer. He has a doctorate in music education and has performed at Disneyland, on the Delta Queen Steamboat, and at multiple state fairs, churches, conferences, festivals and universities nationwide. He calls himself a one-man trio: Kuntz, piano and stool.

Tickets are $12 at the door, but are available for $10 in advance at Norm’s News in Kalispell, Glacier Wallflower and Gifts in Columbia Falls, and the Pocketstone Cafe in Bigfork.
