BELGRADE — Shalaina Duford held Belgrade to two hits and struck out six as Polson blanked the Panthers 5-0 on Saturday at the Belgrade Invitational softball tournament.

Jordyn Evertz and Jessica Bagnell both went 2-for-3 for Polson. Bagnell and Duford had one double apiece.

Polson had a much easier time in its outing with Havre, rolling to a 21-3 victory.

Polson scored 14 runs in the first inning of that one. The Pirates sent 20 batters to the plate in that inning and totaled 14 hits.

Heidi Rausch, 3-for-4, doubled and tripled in the big inning. Duford, 3-for-5, also had two hits in that inning along with Martina Marquardt, 2-for-4.

On Friday, Polson lost to Livingston 14-8. No boxscore was available from that game.

“They came back strong against Belgrade, the favorite team over here,” Polson coach Larry Smith said.

“Very satisfied, we did very well (for the two days). We kind of overlooked that first game (Livingston). We didn’t have that energy.”
