Polson rallies past C-Falls in softball
POLSON — Martina Marquardt doubled to left with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive in two runs and push Polson past Columbia Falls 2-1 on Tuesday in Northwestern A softball play.
Columbia Falls held a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.
“One thing our team has been doing is when we are trailing late in the game, they still find a way to win,” Polson coach Larry Smith said.
“We’ll take it.”
Columbia Falls outhit Polson 6-3 and received a strong circle performance from Ashley Trueblood. She fanned six batters and issued no walks in tossing a 3-hitter.
“She pitched an excellent game,” Smith said.
Shalaina Durford (5-1) had two strikeouts and walked one batter.
Duford started the rally with a single with one out. Jessica Bagnell reached on an error. After a strikeout, Marquardt delivered the game winner.
Columbia Falls stranded runners on third in the first and sixth innings.
“Columbia Falls played a very good game,” Smith said.
“They had every opportunity to win the game. The bouncing ball went our way today.
Polson (5-1 overall, 2-0 league) plays a league game Thursday at Libby.
Columbia Falls hosts Whitefish on Thursday.
