Kalispell guitarist releases new book
A Kalispell guitarist’s new book is being released in Germany.
Steve Eckels’ “First Lessons for Fingerstyle Guitar” is being released this month by Mel Bay Publications at Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany. Musikmesse is one of the world’s leading fairs for musical instruments, sheet music, music production and marketing.
Eckels’ book and accompanying audio offer an introduction to fingerstyle guitar; each lesson is carefully designed to allow for smooth progression. Each of the book’s 10 lessons contains the four pillars of practice: scales, reading, progressions and repertoire.
Developed in the classroom, this book provides arrangements of beautiful guitar pieces in a basic form, and instructions for how to embellish them in your own way. Included are shortcuts for learning to read music and fingerstyle accompaniment patterns such as the famous "Travis" pattern.
Eckels teaches guitar at Flathead and Glacier high schools and Flathead Valley Community College. He also performs weekly at Rising Sun Bistro in Kalispell.
