Sydney Corinne (Combs) Derrick, 80

Sydney Corinne (Combs) Derrick, 80, “entered into rest” on March 18, 2013, at the Bee Hive Home in Columbia Falls.  

Syd was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Whitefish, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Combs.  

She moved to Washington, where she worked for most of her adult life, including 10 years as a secretary for the Democratic Party at the capital building in Olympia. After she retired, her one desire was to move back to Montana, which she did in 1994, vowing to never leave again.  

Syd was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Combs; her mother, Frances Combs; and her son, Jay Elam.  

She is survived by her son, Michael Elam; brother, Lloyd “Todd” Combs; sister, Laura Clayton; brother, Stephen Combs; and grandchildren, Jason “Gabe” Elam, Kiera Elam, Melissa Bury and Devon Clement-Elam.  

Syd loved birds, she loved to garden and to go gambling, but most of all she loved her family and she will be missed by all.  

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
