Flathead’s Zach Perrin doubled up with victories on the track while Dylan Creek and Kwyn Johnson and Glacier’s Kyle Griffith all placed first in field events Saturday at the Missoula Invitational.

Perrin had the top times in the 1,600 (4:19.95) and 3,200 (9:43.41).

Creek cleared 13-6 to win the pole vault and Johnson went 36-1/2 to win the triple jump.

Johnson was also second in the 100 hurdles (16.39).

Griffith had the best distance in the triple jump (46-7).

Those efforts helped their respective teams do well in the team standings.

The Glacier boys finished second with 88 points and Flathead was third with 85 1/2.

The Flathead girls wound up third with 77 1/2 points. Glacier was fifth, 61.

The Polson girls were ninth and Columbia Falls 10th. The Columbia Falls boys were 12th and Polson 13th.

Flathead’s Dani Davis turned in second-place finishes in the 100 (13.14) and 200 (27.24). Flathead’s Matt Quist was second in the high jump (6-1).

“Was 37 (degrees) but it felt more like 21,” Glacier girls coach Jerry Boschee said of the weather the athletes had to contend with.

“But we stayed dry.”

Boschee said the Wolfpack again were led by field event stars Shauna Williams, Tessa Krueger and Leah Cook and freshman runner Corrine Hamilton.

“Krueger stepped it up in the shot put,” Boschee said.

“She showed a two-foot improvement. That’s a huge confidence builder for her.”

Krueger was second with a toss of 34-7 1/2.

“Cook has been real consistent,” Boschee said of her long and triple jumps.

“She was right behind Kwyn (Johnson) in the triple, finishing second.”

Her distance — 35-10.

She was third in the long jump — 16-10 1/2.

Cook has qualified for state now in both events.

Williams was second in the discus and qualified for state by better than five feet with a throw of 118-9.

Hamilton was third in the 1,600 (5:31.03) and fifth in the 3,200.

“She’s a freshman who is on fire right now,” Boschee said.

“She keeps improving. She’s going to be a really good distance runner.”

Griffith and Flathead’s Matthew Tokarz battled for top honors in the jumps. Tokarz also went 46-7 in the triple.

Griffith was second in the long jump at 21-10 1/4 with Tokarz third, 21-2.

“There was a pretty good triple jump competition with him and Matt Tokarz,” Glacier coach Arron Deck said.

“They tied their first two jumps and had to go to their third jump and that’s how Kyle won it.”

Glacier’s Noah James finished second the 100 hurdles (15.52), Troy Fraley was third in the 1,600 (4:23.59), Taylor Hulslander was second in the javelin (178-4) and Shelton Todd third (177-7) and Hailee Bennett placed third in the 300 hurdles (51.47),

Riley Sampson of Polson was second in the shot put (50-4) and Anna DiGiallonardo was third in the 100 (13.17).

Columbia Falls’ Josiah Osborne was third in the 100 (11.54) and Samantha Mundel was third in the 3,200 (12:19.70).
