Softball: Plains thumps Eureka

EUREKA — Eureka dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Plains Friday, losing game one 30-0 in five innings and game two 6-5 in eight innings.

The Lady Lions committed seven errors and pitchers Hannah Price and Laura Williams gave up a combined 19 walks in game one, but Eureka (0-4) bounced back to push the Trotters in game two.

Trailing 5-4 in the top of the seventh Price singled to drive in Evynn Anderson and force extra innings. Plains pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded walk.

“I’m really proud of the girls,” Eureka coach Andy Escobar said. “They didn’t hang their heads. They knew what they were capable of and they played a heck of a game.”

Cassidy Morgan pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and seven walks. She tallied three strikeouts.

“Great pitching performance by Cassidy Morgan,” Escobar said. “It was just an all-around great game. Fun game to coach, fun game to watch.”

Price led the Lady Lions with three hits in four at bats and three RBIs. Morgan batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Nicole Anderson was 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Eureka hosts a doubleheader against Florence today beginning at noon.
