Volkswagen dealership on agenda for Kalispell council

A planned unit development overlay to accommodate the construction of a Volkswagen dealership in Kalispell will be considered at tonight’s Kalispell City Council meeting.

Gardner Investments and Volkswagen Real Estate have asked for the overlay on two tracts of land at the southeast corner of the intersection of U.S. 93 South and Willow Glen Drive. DePratu Ford and Volkswagen plans to build an 11,000-square-foot dealership on the property.

The city of Kalispell agreed to annex the Gardner property with broad commercial zoning in exchange for a planned unit development overlay that gives the city some oversight in regard to how the gateway property is developed.

The Kalispell Planning Board held a public hearing on the proposal March 12 and recommended approval of the PUD with 20 conditions.

In other business, the council will consider a construction agreement with the state Department of Transportation to build sidewalks on Reserve Loop to U.S. 93.

The project includes construction on parts of West Reserve Drive, the intersections with Reserve Loop and U.S. 93. Because a portion of the improvements are within city limits, the state is required to develop an agreement outlining the operation and maintenance responsibilities of the state and city.

The state plans to begin construction in June and will pay for the project.

A public hearing on a Community Development Block Grant for a new county Agency on Aging facility has been postponed to May 6.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Kalispell City Hall.
