Softball roundup: Big inning lifts Flathead over C-Falls

COLUMBIA FALLS — Flathead scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 6-4 nonconference softball victory Tuesday over Columbia Falls.

Flathead (2-3 overall) did all of its scoring in the big inning with two outs. Sidney Alberts started it by walking. Columbia Falls had two errors in the inning to keep the rally going.

Alberts had two hits for Flathead.

Tiffany Hummer and Winter Kemppainen both had two hits for Columbia Falls.

Flathead faces Glacier on Thursday in a crosstown doubleheader.

Up next for Columbia Falls is a Class A league contest on Friday at home with Libby.

LIBBY — Morgan Ray tossed a two-hitter and Keegan Wickman, who went 2-for-2, drove in four runs as Frenchtown beat Libby in Class A conference action.

Ray struck out 14 Libby batters.

Libby pitcher Hannah England also went the distance in the circle and held Frenchtown to five singles and one double.

“Frenchtown is a good hitting team and she pitched well,” Libby coach Dean Thompson said of England.

“Defensively, we played pretty well.”

Libby falls 2-3 overall, 1-2 league.

EUREKA — Eureka picked up its first win of the season, blasting Troy 19-9.

Cassidy Morgan, Elliott Peterson and Charity Parsons (2) doubled for the Lions. Morgan drove in three runs.

The second game ended in a 12-12 tie after six innings. The game was called because of darkness.

Eureka is now 1-4-1 overall on the season.

“I’m proud of the girls,” Eureka coach Andy Escobar said. “We had two starters out to injuries and one starter was gone on a school trip. They pulled together and got the job done.”
