Polson man pleads guilty to threats

POLSON (AP) — A Polson building inspector who was fired after being charged with driving a city vehicle while under the influence of alcohol has pleaded guilty to leaving a threatening phone message at City Hall.

Ronald Melvin, 58, pleaded guilty Wednesday in District Court in Polson.

Court records say Melvin was fired last May 14, just over a month after he was cited for DUI along Interstate 90 in Jefferson County. Prosecutors alleged Melvin left a telephone message the next day threatening to kill the city manager, attorney and a clerk if the manager didn’t resign.

Melvin pleaded guilty to the DUI in May 2012.

The plea agreement in the threat case recommends that District Judge C.B. McNeil give Melvin a two-year deferred sentence on May 22.
