Daryl A. Webster, 43

Daryl A. Webster, 43, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at his home in Crescent City, Calif.

Daryl, the youngest of three siblings, was born Sept. 15, 1969, in Missoula to Rodney and Beverly Webster. He was a quiet, happy and extremely affectionate child who enjoyed joking around.

Following graduation from Sentinel High School in 1987, Daryl studied administration of justice in college. He then enlisted in the Navy and worked as a military photographer while stationed in Bremerton, Wash., on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. Later in his service he was stationed in Lemoore, Calif. Daryl served his country during the Persian Gulf War.

Following his military service, in 1995, he graduated from the California Correctional Academy to work as a correctional officer for Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City, Calif. By 2001, he had been promoted to the rank of sergeant. In 2005 he was further promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Daryl served his fellow officers as the president of the California Supervisors Organization and as the vice president of the Pelican Bay State Prison Athletic Association. As a testament to his dedicated service, Daryl was recognized with a number of awards and honors. He was very active in his community and was always looking for ways to help out family, friends and fellow officers.

Daryl loved the outdoors, especially when he could spend time with his son, Jace. He enjoyed family time, photography, fishing, rodeo, his country music and the Western lifestyle. He was known for helping out friends in need and seemed to always be there when needed. Though an imposing figure when he wanted to be, he was loved by those that knew him. He had an infectious smile and a way to make everyone laugh. He was the life of the party.

Survivors include his son, Jace Webster; Jace’s mother, Shelane Hughson; mother and father, Beverly and Rodney Webster; sister, Tyla Wilson; brother, Darrin Webster; nieces and nephews, Karli Volkmann, Cody Volkmann and Tyler Volkmann; extended cousins, Craig and Mary Webster, Katie Galbraith and Cody Webster; and numerous other special aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 20, at The Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Crescent City. A celebration of life was held afterwards at the VFW.  There will be another memorial service held for Daryl at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Valley Christian School Auditorium in Missoula, with a reception to follow.

Daryl was a wonderful dad, son and friend. We will miss him terribly.
