Kalispell illustrator's work in children's book

A Kalispell native’s illustrations are featured in a new children’s book.
“Have You Ever Seen a Bear with a Purple Smile?” was released this spring by Farcountry Press. The book by Missoula writer Laura Budds features bright watercolor illustrations by Kadie Zimmerman.
The book is a rhyming story that tells of two young bunnies who wonder about bears’ purple smiles. Those smiles, they learn, come from the bears’ eating sweet, juicy huckleberries growing in secret patches in the woods.
Zimmerman was born and raised in Kalispell, and graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in art. Budds has lived in Missoula since 1997.
