Glacier Park plows have work cut out for them
If recent photos of snow smothering the historic Granite Park Chalet are any indication, Glacier National Park plow crews will have their work cut out for them in the weeks to come on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
The park’s avalanche specialists recently skied into the chalet, which is mostly buried by snow. Avalanche danger is expected to increase due to warming weather, always a concern for the plow crews on Sun Road.
The west-side plow is encountering deep snow as it works toward Haystack Creek this week. The east-side crew mobilized equipment to begin plowing beyond the gate at Rising Sun.
On the west side, visitors can drive Sun Road 11.5 miles to the gate closure at Lake McDonald Lodge. From there, hikers and bikers will not have any restrictions through this Sunday.
On the east side, there are no hiker-biker restrictions beyond Rising Sun.
