High school neighbors meet Thursday
A second meeting has been scheduled for people who live near Flathead High School to try to work through parking issues and other problems identified through a neighborhood survey.
More than 30 people attended a first meeting on April 11.
At that meeting, Kalispell staffers shared the results of their mail survey and asked if residents wanted to start a neighborhood steering committee to try to craft solutions to the problems they reported.
Trash and litter were the most widely shared neighborhood concern, followed by parking issues, smoking and tobacco use, speeding, unsafe driving, vandalism and loud cars and music.
Discussions continue with a second meeting on Thursday.
Flathead High School Principal Pete Fusaro plans to update residents on efforts the high school has taken to reduce the amount of trash and litter in the neighborhood.
Residents also will start considering solutions to thorny parking issues.
They likely will be asked to break into smaller groups and brainstorm a range of possible options.
Some residents have said they want Kalispell to implement a residential parking district around the high school to keep students and teachers from parking on city streets. City staffers have researched parking districts and plan to discuss their pros and cons with residents.
Thursday’s meeting is from 6-7 p.m. at the Flathead High School Library.
