The Montana State Men’s Mid-Amateur golf tournament begins today at Buffalo Hill Golf Club, the first time the area has hosted the tournament since 2008.

The tournament, open to golfers in the state at least 25 years old, will take place over three days, culminating on Saturday. A total of 92 golfers will take the course, including defending champion Spencer Williams of Great Falls and four other former champions. Of that group, 30 golfers from the area are looking to become the first from Northwest Montana to win the state mid-am.

Former Glacier High School head golf coach Rob Logsdon won the event in 2005, golfing then out of Helena.

Now in its 27th year, the tournament has been held in the area only twice before, both times in Whitefish (1998, 2008). Buffalo Hill last hosted a state golf tournament in 2007, when Whitefish’s Dave Morberg won the state senior golf title. The course has been good luck for local golfers. Previously Kalispell’s Justin Dorr won the men’s state amateur in 2001.

The tournament tees off today at 7:30 a.m.
