Lindholm leads Men's Mid-Am golf
Kalispell’s Logan Lindholm roared out to a commanding lead during the first day of the 27th annual Montana State Men’s Mid-Amateur golf championship on Thursday at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.
The reigning club champion, Lindholm made 10 birdies in the opening round to shoot a 7-under-par 65. One of just three golfers to shoot under par on the tournament’s first day, he leads by four strokes.
He started off fast, knocking in birdies on the second and third holes, but a bogey and double bogey on four and five threatened to pull down his round. But, just like that, he found his rhythm, making birdie on two of the last three holes on the way out and six times on the back nine.
“I got on a hot streak,” Lindholm said. “I was knocking it close and making some putts. It was fun.”
Lewistown’s Christoph McConnell jumpstarted his round with an eagle at the par-5 seventh hole, erasing a pair of bogeys on the first two holes. He went on to birdie three holes on the back nine and enter the clubouse in second place at 3-under-par.
The back nine was also fruitful for Great Falls’ Ross Bartell, who birdied five holes on the way in to finish the day 1-under in third place.
Whitefish’s Mark Mance and Shawn Tucker are in a tie for fourth place with Billings Jim Coleman at even par.
Kalispell’s Doni Walter and Whitefish’s Brad Grattan are in a tie for seventh place at 1-over with defending Mid-Am champion Spencer Williams of Great Falls and Fairfield’s Jon Schenk.
The tournament continues today at 7:30 a.m.
