Stock sale hits nearly $294,000
The annual market stock sale grossed nearly $294,000 Saturday as local 4-H and FFA members bid farewell to their steers, hogs, and lambs.
Saturday’s sale at the 2013 Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo raised about $35,000 more than in 2012, thanks to higher average prices per pound for all three species.
Beef sold for an average of $3.45 per pound, up 84 cents per pound over last year. Hogs sold for an average of $4.83 per pound, up 44 cents per pound. Lambs sold for an average of $6.99 per pound, up $2.39 cents per pound.
This year’s champion animals and their sale prices:
v Champion Market Beef raised by Talli Carmalt of Kalispell was purchased by Dr. Al Olszewski for $8,226. The animal weighed 1,371 pounds and sold for $6 per pound.
v Reserve Champion Market Beef raised by Kylee Gibson of Kalispell was purchased by Kalispell Toyota for $5,227.50. The animal weighed 1,230 pounds and sold for $4.25 per pound.
v Champion Market Hog raised by Garrett Jewett of Kalispell was purchased by Big Sky Animal Clinic for $2,008.25. The hog weighed 277 pounds and sold for $7.25 per pound.
v Reserve Champion Market Hog raised by Elizabeth Reiner of Kalispell was purchased by First Interstate Bank for $1,417.50. The hog weighed 270 pounds and sold for $5.25 per pound.
v Champion Market Lamb raised by Bailey Lake of Kalispell was purchased by Norm’s News and Western Outdoor for $1,715. The lamb weighed 140 pounds and sold for $12.25 per pound.
v Reserve Champion Market Lamb raised by Garret Salminem of Columbia Falls was purchased by Super 1 Foods of the Flathead Valley for $1,249.50. The lamb weighed 147 pounds and sold for $8.50 per pound.
