Bear worries campground host

A host at the Tally Lake Campground had someone contact the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office after a bear was seen at a campsite. The host told the intermediary there was concern because the campground was at 75 percent capacity and wanted to know what to do if the bear “goes crazy.”

A passing deputy stopped to check out a vehicle stopped in the middle of U.S. 2 between Hungry Horse and Martin City and talked with the driver, who said they were taking a picture of what they thought was a wolf. The deputy advised the driver not to stop in the middle of the road to do that.

A woman walking past a Kuzmic Lane property in Coram reported hearing someone calling for help, but that it might also be a goat. All a responding deputy was able to find were goats.

A perplexed passerby reported a cow that might be dead on its side in a field with other cows jogging over to it.

The son of a mechanic took advantage of his father’s expertise to take his gas tank apart after having problems with his truck, discovering someone had put about two gallons of water in the tank and taken off all the lug nuts.

A tiny terrier territory war erupted on Parkway Drive, when a Yorkshire terrier got inside the fence of a home and was attacked by several Jack Russell terriers.

A suspicious old man was reported hiding behind canisters to watch young girls playing at a U.S. 2 East property.

A man accidentally dialed 911 while he was “out feeding his bunnies.”

A U.S. 2 West man complained that a local EMS service was using its sirens on every call, and that it had been disruptive to his meal that night.

A man was transported to the Kalispell Regional Medical Center after slitting his wrists inside a Montana 35 bar.

Deputies arrested a man after he was seen hitting a woman inside a vehicle, banging her head off the car. Drugs and alcohol were believed to be involved.


An experienced employee at a South Main Street business contacted the Kalispell Police Department and asked for an officer to move along a transient sleeping at the door of the business, not because the man was being aggressive, but because “they are grumpy sometimes” when employees wake them up.

A Sixth Street West woman called for help dealing with her stoned son and his drunk dad, whom she wanted removed from the home. The impaired pair eventually left together on bicycles.

Bullet holes were reported in windows at properties on U.S. 93 South and U.S. 2 West.

A report of a child crawling under a truck on Second Street West turned out to be retrieving a runaway ball.

A revved-up motorist was reported drift-racing through the parking lot of a Whitefish Stage Road church.

A drunk juvenile was turned over to his mother and his vehicle towed after he and other teens were reported mixing drinks in the vehicle in a U.S. 2 West parking lot.

A Sixth Street West resident managed to put out a fire at his home with a garden hose after starting it with “smoking materials” outside.


The Columbia Falls Police Department was called to a Nucleus Avenue bar after a couple were unable to settle their disagreement without yelling at one another. The pair were separated for the night.

A Riparian Drive man reported his wife assaulted him after they got into an argument, slapping, hitting and kicking him while he repeatedly tried to leave. They were separated for the night.

A concerned Crescent Drive resident reported hearing a rifle shot in the neighborhood, also reporting two different residents in the area had seemed really down lately. When an officer responded, the neighborhood was quiet.
