A Hollywood actor and writer will hold a book signing in Kalispell Sept. 7.

Robert W. “Bob” Dix will sign copies of “To Be a Star: A Guide for Actors and Others” at The Bookshelf on Main Street in Kalispell from noon to 4 p.m.

Dix is a second-generation actor who performed in scores of movies and television shows. His film credits include classic such as “The Glass Slipper,” “The King’s Men,” “Athena” and “Forbidden Planet.” His television work included shows such as “Gunsmoke” and “The Rifleman.”

Dix is the son of Richard Dix, who starred in early Hollywood’s silent films and talkies. His best-remembered early role was in Cecil B. Demille’s silent version of “The Ten Commandments,” and he was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as Yancey Cravatt in “Cimarron” with Irene Dunne.

“To Be a Star” covers what Dix believes is the key to inner peace and serenity. As the child of a famous person, and then a famous actor himself, Dix knows the struggle of living in the limelight. He shares his secrets for knowing who you are — not what you do.
