Full slate of youth classes at art studio

| August 28, 2013 5:00 PM

Stumptown Art Studio’s fall session begins Sept. 9 with programs for every age group.

Mondays are clay days at the art studio. The popular “Spin Spin Spin” class now has two times available for 9- to 12-year-olds to take part, from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. or from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Students will learn the basics of throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel while building the skills of working with clay.

Preschool children ages 3 to 5 get together for “Art Exploration” every Tuesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Each four-week session will emphasize a variety of art materials and fun projects.

After school on Tuesdays for kindergarten through grade three is the popular “Art with the Masters” series. Students will learn about a different artist in each session, then create their own artwork taking inspiration from the masters.

For the littlest artists, the studio offers “Parent-Toddler Art Time” on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for 1- to 3-year-olds to get messy and creative. Later on Thursdays, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., there is “Art en Español” for home-school students. This class uses art and music as a means of teaching the Spanish language.

After school, also on Thursdays, is “Mixed Up Mediums in Sculpture” for ages 7 to 9. Fused glass, found objects, driftwood and paint will be used to create imaginary characters that tell a story in the first session.

The community program After School Arts and Crafts Club for 9- to 13-year-olds meets on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at Stumptown Art Studio.

In addition to the youth classes, a variety of adult workshops given by resident and guest artists are held every month at the nonprofit community art center. The September lineup includes beginning and intermediate clay, precious metal clay, glass fusing, Canvas and Cocktails, the Cultural and Art History Club, and Wild Women Wednesdays.
