Workshop combines love of art, horses

| August 28, 2013 5:00 PM

Indulge your love for horses and art at a one-day workshop in Whitefish Sept. 14.

Diane Hausmann teaches “Horses in the Landscape” at Stillwater Horse Whispers, 4295 U.S. 93 N. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hausmann will teach the art of drawing and painting horses at the class. The horses at Stillwater Horse Whispers will be the models, and the countryside will provide the setting.

Hausmann, a Fairfield resident, says she has loved horses all her life.

“Horses and art have filled my life growing up in Minnesota,” she says. “Since making my home along the eastern front of the Rockies in 1986, I have been painting these horses in the wonderful landscapes of Montana.”

During the workshop, students will learn to make the foundation drawing of a horse. The focus is on proportion and perspective, the two main challenges when drawing horses.

After a morning of drawing studies of the models, students will focus on painting the landscape and including horses in the painting.

Participants should bring their drawing and painting gear, a lunch and beverages.

The cost is $95, with portion of proceeds going to the Montana Horse Sanctuary in Simms.

Those interested in taking part in the workshop should sign up by Sept. 9.
