Youths invited to try out for 'Wizard of Oz'
The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theater holds auditions for the first musical production of its 2013-14 season, “The Wizard of Oz,” Tuesday.
The nonprofit youth theater program needs about 50 actors in grades two through 12 for the show. No experience is necessary.
Tryouts will be held at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.
Auditions are from 4 to 5 p.m. for youths in grades two and three, from 5 to 6 p.m. for students in grades four through six, and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for youths in grades seven through 12.
Students should prepare a 30-second monologue.
Following the monologues, the directors will ask students to try different things on stage, including learning a part to a song. Those who audition should plan to stay the entire time and be prepared to try new things.
Students in grade seven or higher who are interested in playing Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man or the Cowardly Lion should watch the original MGM movie from 1939 and plan to sing a bit of “Over the Rainbow” or “If I Only Had a Brain.”
Performances are Sept. 20 through 21 and Sept. 27 through 29
Those who want to be part of the show but not on stage may be able to help backstage and with several technical areas for the productions.
