Drum Brothers host 'Musical Dreamtime Journey'
The Drum Brothers are bringing a “Musical Dreamtime Journey” to Whitefish.
Michael Marsolek and Lawrence Duncan present Musical Dreamtime Journey in Great Falls, Helena, Bozeman, Missoula, Spokane and Whitefish. They’ll be in the Flathead Valley Dec. 23.
These annual concerts celebrating the season of lights and winter solstice have been presented around the region for 18 years. Each performance features a variety of world instruments and sounds, including didgeridoos, ethnic flutes, bassoons, saxophones, drums and percussion instruments, harp, Tibetan bowls, voices and other musical surprises.
Unique to the world of performing arts, Dreamtime Journey concerts are held without applause, in the round and by candlelight. And for contemplative comfort, participants are encouraged to bring pillows, pads and/or blankets.
For many attendees, the Musical Dreamtime Journey has become an annual holiday tradition and a great way to de-stress during the sometimes frenetic season.
Marsolek is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. In Drum Brothers and as a guest in other ensembles he is featured on numerous drums and percussion instruments.
He has a passion for the didgeridoo and American Indian flute. Marsolek is a longtime singer and is in his seventh season with Dolce Canto. He has been collaborating with Duncan on the Musical Dreamtime Journey events for 15 years.
Duncan is a music thanatologist with Hospice of Missoula and is a performer and workshop co-facilitator with Drum Brothers World Rhythm ensemble based in Arlee. He has recorded tracks on projects with Shake Russell and Dana Cooper, Mandir, Drum Brothers, Brian Kopper, John Floridis and Musical Dreamtime Journey.
Bassoon, soprano saxophone, flutes and recorders, West African percussion, harp and voice are some of the instruments Duncan makes use of in performance and in his work as a contemplative musician. Essential to his life as a musician is the conviction that musical activity can be a means of connecting with the world of Divine Creative impulses.
The Whitefish concert starts at 7 p.m. Dec. 23 at the O’Shaughnessy Center.
Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
