Tip-off tourney: Evans leads Bigfork boys in win over Corvallis, 60-53

RONAN — Bigfork senior forward Christian Evans scored 21 points to lead the Vikings (1-0) to a season-opening 60-53 victory over Corvallis at the Northwestern A/Southwestern A tip-off tournament on Friday morning.

Only up one point at halftime, Bigfork took off in the third quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 14-9 to open up a comfortable lead.

Jon Landon scored 17 points and Josh Sandry 10. Chance Waldo and Alma Powell each led Corvallis with 11 points.

RONAN — Three Whitefish boys were in double figures as the Bulldogs (1-1) held off Hamilton to pick up their first win of the season.

Art Doorn led the team with 18 points as Whitefish withstood a 16-point fourth quarter from the Broncs to win by a bucket. Whitefish’s Garrett Anderson scored 13 and E.J. Havens scored 11.

Josh Heath led Hamilton with 19 points.

RONAN — Alex Presnell led all scorers with 22 points and Columbia Falls routed Anaconda.

Ty Morgan added 11 points and Jared Trinastich scored 10 for Columbia Falls (1-0), which outscored Anaconda 68-36 the first three quarters.

Drew Conrady led Anaconda with 11 points.

RONAN — Jared Winslow scored a game-high 33 points for Libby, but the Loggers lost to Ronan.

Libby (0-1) led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter but was outscored 24-14 in the second.

Timmy Woll and Alex Quequesah led Ronan with 20 points apiece.

Polson only reached double digits in a quarter once, and struggled to defend the experienced Beavers. Cedrick Smith led the Pirates with 10 points.

RONAN — Defending Class A champion Stevensville started its repeat bid on the right foot with a win over Frenchtown.

Zach Gavlak and Jesse Sims each scored 18 points for Stevensville and teammate Jared Schultz scored 17 as the Yellowjackets outscored Frenchtown 21-8 in the final quarter.

John Chapman had a game-high 20 for the Broncs.
