Hockey: Nationals finish 1-2 at showcase
LAS VEGAS — The Billings Bulls scored five unanswered goals in the second period to blow out the Glacier Nationals 8-2 in an exhibition junior hockey showcase Wednesday at SoBe Ice Arena.
The Bulls scored on three of six power plays and outshot Glacier 44-26.
Brett Fernandez and Karson Frisk netted Glacier’s goals. Fernandez scored on an assist from Tyler Latimer to make the score 2-1 in the first period. Joseph Mata answered for Billings at 18:29 before Frisk scored on an assist from Shane Archuleta to cut Glacier’s deficit to 3-2.
Latimer and teammates Adam Dalton and Tanner Dodd played for the AWHL All-Star team that lost 4-3 to the Great Falls Americans in a shootout.
The Nationals finished with a 1-2 record at the Las Vegas showcase. American West Hockey League play resumes on Jan. 2 when Glacier hosts the league-leading Helena Bighorns at the Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish.
