Be careful, drivers, on slippery roads

Swiftly worsening weather and continuing snowfall kept local emergency responders scrambling Friday afternoon and evening as slick roads led to crashes throughout the valley.


A Flathead County Sheriff’s deputy agreed to write a follow-up to an animal control officer’s report and send it to the Flathead County Attorney’s Office after a Foothill Road resident in Bigfork claimed the deputy was not doing his job. The complaint involved dogs running loose and barking in the area, and the resident was not happy with the single report being filed by the animal control officer.

A Lakeside woman returned home to discover someone had ransacked it. She said there were no signs of forced entry, but everything inside was in piles with every drawer dumped out and upside down. The woman said she had a dangerous ex-husband who had made threats about this kind of thing in the past.

A man with a history of violent tendencies and resisting arrest is believed to have stolen a vehicle on Fifth Avenue West while drunk, and crashed it on Montana 83.

A woman who gave her daughter $250 to pay their electric bill reported the daughter and her boyfriend instead used the money to buy drugs. The woman reported she found syringes and drugs in the daughter’s room.

An Evergreen landlord reported her tenant threatened her and tried to hit her with his car, and that she was now chasing him down East Evergreen Drive. She shared her fear that he was going to harm her children. She agreed to apply for a restraining order.

A Solberg Drive homeowner who previously had problems with squatters reported receiving a $430 electric bill. He believed someone was stealing his electricity or that squatters were back on the property.

A McDermott Lane man reported a man was harassing him over the phone, continually threatening him and refusing to leave him alone.

A Lake Blaine Road woman reported her belief that a mail carrier ran into her basketball hoop and broke it. She was not interested in pursuing charges unless the offending party refused to fix it.

A man reported he was assaulted by his father and his business associate on U.S. 2 West.

A woman was advised to apply for a restraining order after receiving threatening emails from a man.

A Sherman Road resident reported receiving obscene phone calls.

A woman was arrested during a traffic stop on West Evergreen Drive.


A boy was taken in for a mental health evaluation by a Kalispell Police officer after expressing intent to harm others, throwing knives and telling his mother to “mind her [expletive] business.”

A cat was taken to the animal shelter after a Fifth Avenue East North resident reported hearing a cat or kitten crying in a nearby garage for more than a week.

A motorist and her passengers were counseled after a passerby complained that they were spinning brodies in a parking lot off U.S. 2 West.

A traveling terrier was picked up by an animal control officer after it was caught while wandering inside a North Meridian Road store.

A Sunny View Lane nurse reported two boys, ages 10 and 12, had been sending nude pictures to men over the Internet.

A Crestview Road resident reported her desire for charges to be pressed against a woman she said had stolen her pain medication. The accused thief was possibly at a nearby hotel to smoke drugs.

A woman matching the description of someone possibly on amphetamines and possibly violent was located on East Idaho Street — but she was just smoking a cigarette.

A pair of cantankerous chows were captured after slipping their leashes on U.S. 93 North.

A helpful Whitefish Police officer gave a drunken man a ride to a motel.

A very drunken man was reportedly missing his cellphone and wallet after a fight on Central Avenue.

A motorist on her way to school was rear-ended at an East Fourth Street stop sign.


The manager of a Ninth Street West grocery store contacted Columbia Falls Police after a woman walked out with a cart full of groceries without paying. The manager reported the woman should have been captured on the store’s security cameras.
