Not-so-fun sliding on local roads

| December 24, 2013 9:00 PM

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to several slide-off accidents overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Vehicles went off the road on U.S. 2 West near Columbia Falls, Martin Road in Martin City and U.S. 93 North on Kalispell. A semi-trailer also slid off the road on Montana 82 north of Bigfork, partially blocking traffic in front of a bowling alley.

A 2-year-old Martin City boy drank, but spit out, a little bit of fingernail polish remover, leading to a frantic 911 call by the child’s grandmother. She was advised by poison control personnel that the boy would be fine since he spit it out, but to take him to the hospital if he started vomiting, staggering like he was drunk or if he passed out.

A pair of snowmobilers showed up at the parking lot adjacent to the Hungry Horse Dam just in time to save search and rescue personnel from heading into the snowy terrain to search for them after they were late returning from a morning excursion.

A naughty motorist was reported nonchalantly opening a beer and drinking as he drove away from the U.S. 2 West gas station from which he had bought the booze.

The owner of a pickup truck reported a not-so-sweet person had poured sugar into the gas tank of his vehicle while it was parked on West Cottonwood Drive.

A Whitefish Police Department officer responded to a Spokane Avenue hotel after a downstairs neighbor reported a loud party above him, also reporting he could “smell cocaine.” Security was on scene removing a bunch of people when the officer arrived. Everyone was eventually sent on their way except for the residents who were paying for the room.

A motorist was given several citations — not having a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration — during a traffic stop on U.S. 93 South.

A helpful officer aided a delivery driver in getting the driver’s vehicle out of a Centennial Drive ditch.

A much-too-merry motorist in a pickup truck was reported to the Columbia Falls Police Department after spinning brodies in a field to the west of a 12th Avenue West elementary school, then backing into the school’s fence. The driver was arrested and cited for drunk driving and drug possession before being released to a sober driver.
