Encounters with police don't deter addict

A 53-year-old Whitefish woman who is addicted to inhalants was the focus of three calls to law enforcement Monday afternoon.

Shortly after noon, Kalispell Police Department officers responded to the parking lot of a U.S. 93 North business, where she was reported sitting in a vehicle, sniffing something from a can. Officers picked her up, but the jail was too full to accept her.

Kalispell officers were again dispatched at 4:16 p.m., this time to a fast-food restaurant on North Main Street, where she had been in the bathroom sniffing something else. The employee who reported the woman went to a nearby pharmacy and confirmed the woman had recently purchased the substance. When officers arrived, the woman was transported to the emergency room.

Then, just before 7:30 p.m., the driver of the cab in which she was riding noticed her huffing something in the back seat. The driver had Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies meet him in the parking lot of a U.S. 93 North business, where she was arrested for criminal possession of a toxic substance and taken to jail.

In other business, Kalispell officers were unable to find a man threatening to kill people at a U.S. 93 South hotel.

A Battle Ridge Drive man reported his fiancee’s ex-husband — who supposedly carries a gun in the glove box of his vehicle — was circling around their house. He said they tried to get a restraining order, but it was not granted.

Someone cut the fuel line to a truck at a Fourth Avenue West North business, also stealing gasoline.

A suspicious man was reported going to a South Main Street kiosk twice a week, filling out deposit slips, putting them in a shipping envelope and putting them in the night drop, but not completing any actual transactions.

A trio of teenage boys were reported throwing ice and rocks at ducks in Woodland Park, trying to kill them.

A girl was arrested and returned to high school after she was located at a local mall following a report that she had run away.

A drunk homeless man was advised to move along after refusing to leave the lunch area in front of a Third Avenue East North business.

A man was arrested when an officer stopped to investigate the man and his vehicle on Willow Glen Drive.

A purse was stolen from a locked vehicle on Merganser Drive.

A snowboard was stolen from the yard of a Seventh Avenue West home.


Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Montana 35 after a man reported he was attacked by two men, one of whom had a knife, when he stopped his vehicle to relieve himself. The man said he was cut on both his arms and his stomach. Responding deputies noted the cuts, all superficial, but were unable to locate any further evidence corroborating the man’s report.

A distraught woman contacted police to help find her homeless son after she had a dream that he was dead.

A First Avenue South woman in Hungry Horse reported her husband tried to run her over.

An Airport Road woman in Kalispell reported ongoing issues in a lot near her home, where she said there have been vehicles gathering, shots fired and thefts.

A motorist in a gold Chevrolet Suburban tried to steal a work trailer from a flooring company at a job site on McMannamy Draw in Kalispell.

A concerned man reported another man circling a trailer court on Ridgewood Drive in Kalispell with a bottle of beer in his hand. The man said he smelled alcohol when he spoke with the driver.

A woman walking with her children and a stroller had to move to avoid a drunk driver spinning brodies and swerving on Sunnybrook Lane in Somers. The driver had a big dog in the front seat with him.

A brave Pomeranian was taken to the animal shelter after being found running loose on Montana 40 West in Whitefish.

A dog owner was cited for having a vicious dog and dog at large after the animal bit a person on the foot, breaking the skin, on Edgewood Drive in Kalispell.

A U.S. 2 East man in Kalispell reported someone took his money and his medication.

A girl was brought in by her attorney to turn herself in.


The Whitefish Police Department received a report of an elderly man looking confused standing in the middle of U.S. 93 South. Traffic stopped for the man but he wouldn’t move.

A concerned parkgoer reported a canoe left in the children’s park on East Fifth Street.


Columbia Falls Police Department officers arrested a shoplifter after she was apprehended by the director of a Ninth Street West store. The woman was initially compliant, but then tried to get in her car and leave before police arrived.


Polson Police Department officers arrested a person for disorderly conduct at a bar on Anchor Way.

Criminal mischief was reported on Main Street.

Someone trespassed at an 11th Avenue West property.

An assault was reported near a bar.


The Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigated an assault with a weapon on Pablo West Road.

A Panorama Drive home in Polson was burglarized.

An incident of partner or family member assault was investigated on Fourth Street North.

Disorderly conduct was investigated at a trailer park.
