'Charlotte's Web' spins story at O'Shaughnessy

| February 13, 2013 6:30 PM

Whitefish Theatre Company will present the delightful children’s story “Charlotte’s Web” this month.

The play will open with a sneak preview at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

“Charlotte's Web,” written by E.B. White in 1952, remains one of the most popular children's books of all time. Author Eudora Welty wrote, "The book has liveliness and felicity, tenderness and unexpectedness, grace and humor and praise of life."

Adapted from White’s book by award-winning children’s playwright Joseph Robinette, the play tells the enchanting tale of the unusual friendship between Wilbur, the "terrific" pig, and Charlotte, the spider who uses her web to save Wilbur’s life.

This is delightful and thought-provoking theater for all ages. It is appropriate for the whole family to root for Charlotte; Fern, a young girl who loves animals; and the rest of the barnyard animals as they try to save Wilbur from his sad destiny.

The production features 35 talented students from all over the Flathead Valley.

Director Rebecca Spear, who also directed “Seussical,” said, "We've been having a great time creating this beloved story on the stage. It's been such a delight getting to know so many wonderful students, families and volunteers in the community."

The Feb. 21 sneak preview is $10 for general seating; tickets are available only at the door.

Other performances are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23 and March 1 and 2; and 4 p.m. Feb. 24 and March 3. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students. All seats are reserved.

Tickets may be purchased at the box office, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 862-5371. Box office hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before a performance.
