HELENA — Gun advocates are advancing several measures aimed at expanding gun rights.

The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday took a second day of testimony on six bills backed by gun advocates.

One of the measures allows concealed carrying of weapons by anyone who would otherwise qualify for a permit.

Supporters say concealed carry is currently allowed for anyone outside city limits, a policy they argued has worked.

They also want to allow concealed guns in currently prohibited places such as bars.

Opponents argued it would make the permit system useless and make it difficult for police to determine who is allowed to be carrying guns.

Other gun rights measures would allow the use of silencers while hunting big game and let students bring guns on college campuses.
