Seattle-based Massy Ferguson plays in Whitefish

| February 13, 2013 6:00 PM

Massy Ferguson has spent the last few years spreading an array of rock, honky and tonk around the world, taking the bar to the stage. Now the band is bringing its particular style of blue-collar twang rock to the Great Northern Bar in Whitefish.

Seattle-based Massy Ferguson will play at 9 p.m. Feb. 22 and 23.

Singer-bassist Ethan Anderson describes the band’s sound as Americana that leans more toward rock than country. The sound is akin to Drive-By Truckers or some combination of Son Volt and The Hold Steady: Think Springsteen’s "Greetings From Asbury Park" or "Nebraska."

Those are all influences, as is 1970s Southern rock and good-time classic rock bands like Thin Lizzy.

Formed in 2006, the band headlined Whidbey’s Choochokum Festival in 2008, just prior to the release of its first full-length album. Since then, Massy Ferguson has become a regional headliner that also has gained international tour experience. The band recently returned from a tour to Australia, where it played a number of festivals in the southeast region in and around Melbourne, including Apollo Bay Festival and The Gum Ball in New South Wales, sharing the stage with a number of well-known bands from the Oceana region.
