Janet 'Jan' Hawley, 73

| February 26, 2013 10:00 PM

Janet “Jan” Hawley, 73, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Feb. 20, 2013, following a long struggle with COPD complications and a recent heart attack.

She was born in Missoula on June 27, 1939, and raised in Polson.

She married Allen L. Hawley in 1962. In December, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Together they raised three children, Kris, Kevin and Kyle, who also live in the Flathead Valley with their families.

Jan graduated from St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in Missoula in 1963, and later the Montana State University College of Nursing. She enjoyed working as a nurse in a variety of roles, from an aide to registered nurse, to administrator and home care business owner until she retired. She enjoyed mentoring many people in her life.

She most enjoyed family times with her family, three kids, their spouses and her five grandkids — Jasmine, 20, Camas, 16, Rachel, 13, Korbin, 8, and Max, 4. Also, she always found joy in being at the lake, cooking, gardening, sewing and crafts.

Many friends refer to her as Mom and Grandma. She was truly an inspiration to so many. With her leadership style, she was known as commander in charge. She engaged with everyone by always lending a listening ear.

She lived in Polson, Missoula, Aberdeen Wash., and Billings, before moving to Lakeside. She had a lifetime deep love for Flathead Lake.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, David.

She is survived by her husband, Allen; sister, Arlene Strong, of Seattle; brother, Mike Murphy, of Plymouth, Minn.; three kids, Kristine, Kevin and Kyle; and five grandkids.

A family gathering was held at “The Lakehouse” to share the many memories and celebrate Jan’s life. Cards can be sent to 7155 U.S. Hwy. 93 S., Lakeside, MT 59922.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for Janet’s family. You are invited to www.jgfuneralhome.com to view Janet’s tribute wall, offer condolences and share memories.
