Audition for 'Schoolhouse Rock'
Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre invites students in grades six through 12 to audition Monday for the cast of its retro musical Schoolhouse Rock Live!”
The show is based on the ABC-TV educational animated series that aired from the 1970s until the 1980s.
Tom is a young teacher preparing for his first day of school. As he rehearses what he will say, he hears the school bell and the sound of the children settling into their desks.
One at a time the audience sees Tom’s “other sides” — the romantic side, the goofy side, the sweet side, the cool side and more — as they enter speaking his thoughts. When he turns on the TV, the theme to “Schoolhouse Rock” plays. The characters begin to sing the familiar songs that Tom instantly recognizes: “Verb, That’s What’s Happening,” “A Noun is a Person, Place or Thing,” “Three is a Magic Number,” “Just a Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,” and more.
Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre after-school center, 833 Grand Ave., across from the fire hall and Flathead Bank.
Sixth- through eighth-graders try out from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Auditions for high-school students are from 6 to 8 p.m.
This production calls for a medium-sized cast.
It costs nothing to audition. If cast in the show, there is a $40 participation fee.
Those interested in trying out should prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play or book, and plan to learn and sing something at the audition. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience; materials will be available at the center for all who audition.
Those who don’t want to be part of stage work but would like to be involved can be part of building sets, props, costumes, lights and sound. Parent and student assistance is welcome.
