D A W N S plays 3 shows in 2 days

| February 27, 2013 6:00 PM

A Montana-based band with a unique blend of Americana, indie rock and pop will offer three performances in the Flathead Valley this weekend.

Catch D A W N S Friday and Saturday at Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. The group plays from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday and from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday with special opening acts Halladay Quist and David Boone.

The band also plays a “special ‘low dough’ event” presented by The River 103.1 at the Craggy Range in Whitefish Friday. The 10 p.m. concert has a $3 cover and features a special opening performance by Quist.

D A W N S is a collaborative spearheaded by Missoula singer-songwriter David Boone. Boone wrote 12 songs in nine days, and then began digitally arranging the material with help from friends and fellow musicians across the Northwest.

Those demos caught the attention of British producer Danton Supple, who has worked with such artists as Coldplay, Starsailor and Morrissey. Boone worked with Supple and string arranger Audrey Riley (The Smiths, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins) in 2011, and in July 2012, the D A W N S EP was released.

D A W N S recently wrapped up its first national tour, which spanned 35 states and included performances at The Bing Lounge, The CMJ Festival in New York and PBS’ “The Science of Sound.” The EP and corresponding video series have earned critical praise and D A W N S was selected as one of iTunes’ New and Noteworthy artists for 2012.

The songs “Taillights” and “Better to Love Than” have received broad support from radio. The former can be heard locally on the River 103.1.
