Classes for crafters of all levels at yarn store

| January 9, 2013 7:00 PM

Camas Creek Yarn has changed the way it offers knitting and crochet classes.

The Kalispell yarn store’s assisted knitting and crochet programs walk crafters through every step of learning to knit or crochet in a fun, stress-free environment. Beginners classes are open to anyone wanting to learn the basics, and Camas Creek offers three levels of classes for crafters with varied experience.

Each level consists of three project-based classes to build skills, with lunch classes every day. Bring a lunch and learn to knit or crochet.

No experience is necessary for beginning knitting and beginning crochet classes. Learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, or learn to chain and basic crochet stitches.

The following knitting classes will be offered:

• Level one classes require people have the basics down. Level one classes include a dish cloth (learn yarn over increases and knit two together decreases), drop-stitch scarf (learn elongating stitches with yarn overs) and Polebridge scarf (learn a knit 1, purl 1 rib; stripes and slipped stitches on the edge).

• Level two classes build on the skills learned at level one. Classes include a basketweave cowl (learn knit/purl patterning and knitting in the round), hat in the round (learn how to knit in the round on circular and double-pointed needles, and decreasing) and a bulky linen stitch scarf (learn slipping stitches and how to make a lengthwise scarf).

• Level three classes build on all other skills. Crafters who want to take these classes must know how to knit in the round with circular and double-pointed needles.

Classes include a colorwork hat (learn to use two colors to make a basic hat), fingerless mitts (a two-part class that teaches the stockinette and reverse stockinette stitches and how to make a thumb gusset), and mittens with cable (a two-part class that teaches simple cables, thumb gusset and decreasing).

All classes are free with the purchase of supplies (yarn, needles or hooks and, in a few cases, patterns).
