Basketball roundup: Whitefish boys upset C-Falls

WHITEFISH — The Whitefish boys exploded out of the second half, outscoring No. 3 Columbia Falls 12-3 in the third quarter on the way to a 50-35 upset of their Northwestern A basketball rivals.

Tied at half, Whitefish took over in the game’s final 16 minutes, topping the Wildcats in each of the final two quarters.

The Bulldogs (6-3 overall, 2-1 Northwestern A) got 14 points from Logan Harwood and nine from Cooper Olson in the win.

Jared Trinastich led Columbia Falls (6-3, 2-1) with 13 points.

LIBBY — Jared Winslow hit a trey with five seconds left, lifting Libby to a Northwestern A victory over Polson.

Libby (4-6, 1-3) trailed at the half, 23-18.

Winslow finished with 15 points. Barak Lapka added 13 and Kraig Nelson 10 for the Loggers

Will Davey and Riley Sampson both scored 11 for Polson (4-5, 0-2). Cedrick Earthboy chipped in 10.

THOMPSON FALLS —

Sixth-ranked Bigfork cruised to a easy District 7B victory over Thompson Falls.

Bigfork (7-3, 4-0) put the game away with a 23-point second quarter and a 21-point fourth quarter.

Seth Roessmann led Bigfork’s balanced attack with 12 points. Austin Jordt hit 11, while Colter Trent, Chris Landon and Christian Evans had 10 each.

EUREKA — Noxon outscored Eureka 22-9 in the second quarter and that proved to be the difference in the nonconference contest.

Class B Eureka (0-10) battled Noxon on even terms the remainder of play.

Dalton Smith and Tanner Blankers shared scoring honors for Eureka with 18 points apiece.

Austin Tucker scored 28 for Class C Noxon.

EUREKA — Eureka jumped out to an 18-0 advantage and rolled from there to a nonconference victory over Class C Noxon (3-7).

Cassidy Morgan had a double-double for Class B Eureka with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Carli Allen led the Lions in scoring with 14 points.

All total, 10 Eureka players scored.

Eureka (5-5 overall) had 30 rebounds in the contest, 20 on the offensive end.

WHITEFISH — Top-ranked Columbia Falls rebounded from a Thursday nonconference loss to Class AA Glacier to beat Whitefish in a Northwestern A contest.

Columbia Falls (7-2, 3-0) outscored Whitefish (0-9, 0-3) 17-4 in the final frame to pull away. Whitefish managed to close within nine points of the Wildkats in the third quarter.

Whitefish’s Simone Craft led all scorers with a season-high 16 points. She hit four 3s in the contest.

Hope Burlage topped Columbia Falls in scoring with 12 points and Haley Belgarde added 11.

LIBBY — Polson won its second straight ballgame and its first in Northwestern A with a victory over Libby.

Polson (2-6, 1-1) overcame a slow start, down 9-3 after eight minutes of play and 23-15 at the half, to pull it out in the second half. The Pirates outscored Libby 37-14 in the third and fourth quarters.

Anna DiGiallonardo led Polson, and all scorers, with 16 points. Teammates Heidi Rausch added 13 and Tegan Bauer 10.

Hailey Craig, Dayln Germany and Devon Gallagher shared scoring honors for Libby (1-8, 1-3) with eight apiece.

BIGFORK — Logan Beckman led the way with 18 points and Hope Reid added 11 as Thompson Falls (7-3, 4-0) knocked off Bigfork in a District 7B battle.

Bigfork (3-7, 2-2) was led by Tessa Robertson’s nine points and seven rebounds.
