Wolfpack boys pound Lake City
Glacier set the tone early against Lake City on Saturday, playing a fast, physical game against the tough team from Coeur d’Alene, picking up a 70-57 nonconference boys basketball win at Glacier High School.
The Wolfpack went on a 16-3 run in the first quarter, holding Lake City to a dunk and a field goal for more than five minutes of game play. Glacier was aggressive, hitting shots and getting to the free-throw line. Senior wing Logan Iverson led the way, pulling in 10 rebounds and getting to the line 11 times.
“He just battles,” Glacier coach Mark Harkins said.
“He did a great job tonight. He’s our emotional leader out there. When he plays like that it’s contagious. The rest of the kids stepped it up.”
Glacier went on a 15-4 run to close the second quarter and led by as many as 24 in the second half, riding a 10-2 run at the start of the fourth to a 66-42 lead before pulling its starters.
“I thought the kids did a good job against a talented offensive team,” Harkins said.
“We had a good first half that set the tone and finished the game out.”
The Wolfpack made an effort to get the ball to center Ryan Edwards, who had his second big game in a row, scoring 14 points despite sitting much of the first half in foul trouble. The 7-footer was near unstoppable in the post, scoring 10 points in the second half while opening up alleys for his teammates.
“Ryan’s starting to come on now,” Harkins said. “He’s a force on both offense and defense.”
The big man fought through double teams from Lake City’s pair of athletic 6-foot-6 wings. Finally getting healthy from an injured ankle, Edwards went 6 for 8 from the floor, sinking both of his free-throw attempts.
“They’re a good team,” Edwards said.
“I think as a team we played well.”
Matt Peters led the Wolfpack in scoring with 16 points and five assists and five steals. Iverson finished with 13 points to complete a double-double and Bryan Michaels scored 10 points.
Moreen led Lake City with 17 points. JJ Winger scored 14 points, hitting three 3s in the second half.
Glacier (7-1) will host Libby (4-6) on Tuesday in its last nonconference home game of the season.
