Film club kicks off year with Capra classic

| January 16, 2013 6:30 PM

The Museum at Central School kicks off its 2013 series of monthly Historic Film Club screenings Jan. 29 with “State of the Union.”

Frank Capra’s classic film, starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, starts at 7 p.m.

At the urging of power-hungry newspaper executive Kay Thorndyke (Angela Lansbury), industrialist Grant Matthews (Tracy) is persuaded to campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. To boost his public persona, Matthews reunites with his estranged wife (Hepburn). She quickly uncovers the corruption that's infected her once-moral husband.

This compelling adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play is a still-timely commentary on the state of our union.

The black-and-white movie from 1948 isn’t rated. Run time is two hours, three minutes.

There is no charge to attend the movie. Seating is provided, but people can also bring their own floor pillows, portable chairs or whatever is comfortable for viewing the film.

Popcorn will be provided, and wine, beer, pop and water will be sold.

The museum is located at 124 Second Ave. E. in Kalispell. Call 756-8381 for more information.
