Another strong effort by Flathead, Glacier swimmers

MISSOULA — Glacier and Flathead each turned in a host of personal-best times at the Missoula Invitational on Saturday at Grizzly Pool on the campus of the University of Montana.

Flathead senior Cassie Krueger blew the competition out of the water in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall just shy of her personal best in 26.06, nearly a full second ahead of the next finisher. The Bravettes finished in seventh place as a team, just ahead of Glacier in eighth.

The Wolfpack girls were led by Makenna Siebanaler, who finished second in the 100 free.

The Glacier boys placed fifth as a team, winning two relays and a handful of individual events.

Joshua Loyda won both the 50 and 100 freestyles. In the 100 free, Loyda came into the wall in a near dead heat, beating Bozeman’s Orion Kubat by 0.01 seconds, in a time of 50.19.

“It was great,” Flathead/Glacier swim coach Dave Lillard said. “Everyone’s attention was wrapped in the race. It’s fun to have everyone watching and our guys win.”

Jake Cirincione won the 100 butterfly by more than four seconds, finishing in 55 seconds.

The swimmers wrap up the regular season next weekend in Helena. The state tournament is Feb. 8-9 in Hardin.

“We’re training the hardest this week and last week, and still the swimmers are putting up best times,” Lillard said. “They’re reaping what they sow.”
