Basketball roundup: Whitefish boys rally by Polson in fourth quarter

POLSON — It was another tough night for the Polson boys basketball team Saturday.

Art Doorn hit two big 3s and Whitefish outpointed Polson 19-11 in the final eight minutes to pull out a 56-53 Northwestern A victory.

Polson (3-7 overall, 0-3 league) has lost five games this season by a total of eight points.

Doorn finished with nine points.

Logan Harwood netted 12 points for Whitefish (6-4, 2-1). Cooper Olson had 11 for the Bulldogs and Keaton Nicholson 10.

Riley Sampson tallied 15 for Polson. Derek Peel had 12 and Will Davey and Dylan Kelley 11 each.

FRENCHTOWN — Luke Kazlauskas scored 21 points, Jared Trinastich added 15 and Alex Presnell 11 as Columbia Falls (7-3, 3-1) beat Frenchtown (6-6, 3-2) in a Northwestern A battle.

The difference was the third period when Columbia Falls outscored Frenchtown by 10 points.

The remainder of the game was played on even terms.

EUREKA — Eureka closed with a strong fourth quarter, scoring 20 points, but Ronan did all the damage much earlier to claim the nonconference victory.

Eureka (0-10) was led by Tanner Blankers, who scored a season-high 27 points. He had four 3s.

GREAT FALLS — Flathead Valley Homeschool outscored Foothills Christian 23-8 in the final eight minutes to push its season record to 18-1.

FVHS led by seven, 49-42, heading into the fourth quarter.

Jake Van Buren topped FVHS with 20 points. Josiah Sheeran had 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Josh Jarvis totaled 13 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals.

POLSON — Malia Hamel led a balanced Polson attack with 16 points as the Pirates waltzed by Whitefish in Northwestern A play.

Polson (3-7, 2-1) led 42-9 at the half.

Mackenzie Banner added 14 points for the Pirates, Anna DiGiallonardo had 12 and Heidi Rausch 10.

Maura Kalbfleisch had 6 points for Whitefish (0-9, 0-3)

EUREKA — Carli Allen scored 10 of Eureka’s 11 fourth-quarter points and finished with a game-high 18 as the Lions (7-5) beat Ronan to pick up their fourth-straight victory in a nonconference outing.

Cassidy Morgan finished with nine points for the Lions.

Allen totaled six rebounds, five coming on the offensive end. Eureka had 15 offensive rebounds total.

“We started out strong and didn’t give their shooters a lot of good looks and finished the game,” Eureka coach R J McDole said.

Raymi Clairmont led Ronan offensively with 13 points.

FRENCHTOWN — Hope Burlage scored the final four points to lift No. 3 Columbia Falls (8-3, 4-0)to a Northwestern A win over No. 4 Frenchtown (8-4, 3-2).

Burlage finished with 14 points. Teammate Haley Belgarde led all scorers with 19 points.

Haley Cyr hit a trey with 1:30 remaining to tie it at 49-all.

Vanessa Stavish had 18 points and eight rebounds for Frenchtown.

GREAT FALLS — Maggie Rajkowski went coast-to-coast in the final 5.8 seconds to score the game-winning basket for Flathead Valley Homeschool (13-8) in a MCAA contest with Foothills Christian.

Rajkowski finished with 33 points for the Crusaders. She was 15 of 15 free-throw shooting and had a pair of 3s.

Foothills took a 49-48 lead with seven seconds remaining.

On Friday, FVHS beat Great Falls Homeschool 43-37.
