The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the spring session of its citizens academy.

The 10-week course will cover topics ranging from administrative philosophy and internal policies to patrol, investigation, firearms and safety, emergency vehicle operation and drug enforcement, as well as tours of the 911 dispatch center and detention center.

The classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 27 and ending May 29.

There is no cost for the course but space is limited to 30 participants, who must be at least 18 years old, live in Flathead County and be willing to attend all classes with few exceptions.

Applicants will be subject to criminal history checks and will be notified of their enrollment at the discretion of the Sheriff’s Office by March 1.

To apply online, visit the website www.FlatheadCountySheriff.com, select “Programs and Services” at the top of the screen and then select “Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy” from the list.

Applications may also be picked up at the Sheriff’s Office, located at 920 S. Main St. All applications must be turned in by Feb. 15.

A second session of the course is being planned for the fall.
